South Belton Middle School opened in the fall of 2011 as the third middle school in Belton ISD. The land that the school is built on was previously a cow pasture and has some old-growth hardwood trees growing here that are over 100 years old. The property contains a historical rock-constructed well to remind us of the history of the land. The architecture of South Belton was designed to allow for natural lighting and open, flexible instructional areas to facilitate student collaboration. The school was also designed to support the first one-to-one student technology initiative in the district. Every student at South Belton was issued an iPad to use in class and to use outside of school for schoolwork. Since we opened our doors, South Belton has been a leader in instructional technology integration. As a result, we were recognized for six years running as an Apple Distinguished School as a further testament to our dedication to the use of instructional technology.
